U15 & U16 Players
All U15 & U16 players must referee six (6) games and contribute the proceeds from those games to Marin FC.
Players are expected to have a current referee license (CNRA level 8). If a player does not have a license they can attend one of the club’s 2 courses this summer. The club will cover the cost of the course, the first year’s license fee ($40) and provide the player with a referee kit, which includes a jersey, whistle, flags and wallet. The player is expected to return the kit when they’ve either out-grown the jersey or leave the club.
Players who are already licensed are responsible for renewing their license annually. Cost is approximately $40 and renewal can be done online. Directions can be found on the Marin FC website under: Referee Reporting > General Information > Registration Renewal
Players must complete the six (6) game obligation on schedule. The majority of referee opportunities available to our players fall between August and November. After that, there are limited occasions for our players to referee. Because of this, three (3) of the games must be completed by 9/30/13, and the remaining three (3) by 12/16/13. If games are not completed on schedule, the player will be asked to sit out league play until they have caught up to the requirement – note this can be very difficult after mid November. To ensure compliance with this, the club will hold the player’s pass until the player catches up with the requirement. The player may continue to train with the team during this period.
Players should report their games to the club using the Referee Reporting Form link on the club’s website: http://www.marinfc.com/mfc/index.php?option=com_rsform&Itemid=361
Financial Aid Recipients
All Financial Aid players must referee six (6) games and contribute the proceeds from those games to Marin FC.

Referee Volunteers (U14, U17 & U18)
Players can choose to make a tax-deductible contribution of $150, $300 or $600 to Marin FC or opt to referee six (6) games and contribute the proceeds from those games to Marin FC. In choosing to referee in lieu of making a contribution to the club, the player is expected to have a current referee license or take it upon themselves to attain one this summer. Players will be responsible for the cost of the course and referee kit, approximately $75 & $35 respectively.
FAQ’s
Q - Where can I find information on scheduled referee courses? A - Check both Marin FC’s website under Referee’s > Referee Training (http://www.marinfc.com/mfc/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1590&Itemid=336). Additionally, the CYSA District V referee website will post information on courses scheduled in Northern California, accessible at http://www.cysadistrictv.com/refcourses.htm.
Q - How & when should I renew my license? A - If you have a 2013 Referee Badge, you do not need to renew until this fall. If you have a 2012 Referee Badge, you should renew ASAP. The process takes about 6 weeks and requires that you have your USSFID and a credit card. Current cost is $40.00. To renew and/or get your USSFID go to www.marinfc.com Referees > General Information.
Q - The club is not requiring that I referee but I would still like to get licensed and referee games. How do I start? A - You may attend one of our scheduled courses; however priority is given to U15/16 and Financial Aid players. Cost will be approximately $75.00. You may also attend courses offered by other clubs. Note, costs will vary but will include your first year’s license fee. Some clubs waive the cost, but ask that you referee for them (they will still pay you for those games).
Q - How much can I expect to earn for refereeing? A - Pay ranges from $12.50 to $45 per game, depending upon the length of the game and the # of referees (solo referee vs. 3-referee system). The average Marin FC player earned $20 per game in 2011 for a 1-hour game.
Q – What if I am paid directly for games I referee? A – If you are paid by check sign the back of the check and give it to your team manager or team referee coordinator. If paid in cash, give that to your team manager or referee coordinator.
Q – May I start refereeing now and apply those games to my obligation? A – Yes, but remember to report the games on the club’s website at http://www.marinfc.com/mfc/index.php?option=com_rsform&Itemid=361
